Reviewed August of 2016. If you're a Honda-kinda-guy - forget it. This is what the Brits call "a motor". I bought the car for $7000 in August of 2011. It had some minor and some moderate ones to take care of - specifically the idler arms, new disks, brakes and the front struts needed replaced. I found out that it is best to get an OLDER independent that would buy the parts and work for a very reasonable hourly rate. Stay away from the dealers. My total cost in parts and labor was ~$3000 I used to have a 1991 735i for about 10 years - mechanically it was very good, but the electronics started to die at 250,000 miles so I gave it away to Habitat for Humanity. The 1991 735i was a good car. But going from a 735i to a 740il is like going from a biplane to Boeing 777. Recently,I drove it for almost 1000 interstate miles and the only problem was that I got tired and had to stop at a hotel to sleep. I once looked down at the speedometer and I was doing 125 miles per hour. The car is closing in on 20 years of age and is a keeper. 5 years later, just regular maintenance. Please do yourself a favor, by-pass the new junk.
